Blood Mare, and Icelandic Storytel Original published this August, has been nominated to the prestigious crime fiction award The Blood Drop.
The Icelandic Storytel Original title Blood Mare (Blóðmeri) has been nominated for the most prestigious Icelandic crime fiction award, The Blood Drop (Blóðdropinn), as the best crime novel of 2023.
The audiobook, written by Steíndor Ívarsson, was published on Storytel Iceland this August. The author is currently working on a follow-up story that will be published on Storytel during 2024.
Blood Mare is a thrilling murder mystery that keeps readers captivated from the first minute. The story is about Kjartan Ómarsson, a seemingly ordinary man, well-adjusted and affable. One sunny day, he goes for a swim but never returns home. Everyone is taken aback when his body is found in a block of flats that he had kept hidden from his wife and friends. What's worse, Kjartan Ómarsson has been brutally murdered, and his body drained of blood.
The investigation falls into the hands of former football champion Rúna and her colleague Hanna, a newcomer to the detective force. Before they know it, Rúna and Hanna are faced with a disturbing series of crimes that lead them deeper into the dark past of a victim who proves to be more sinister than initially apparent.
This is Steindór Ívarssons first ever crime story. The award will be handed out at the end of January by the president of Iceland, at his residence, in conjunction with the Icelandic Literary Prize.
